Authorities are reporting a multi-car oil train derailment near Mosier, Oregon with smoke and flames visible near the Rock Creek overpass. 

News outlets in the area are reporting Mosier School is under evacuation with students relocating to the Wahtonka campus in The Dalles. 

Ken Armstrong, spokesman for the Oregon Department of Forestry, says the incident involves eight cars filled with oil and one is burning.Highway 84 is closed for a quarter-mile near the site, and the radius for evacuations was a half-mile.

We know the train is operated by Union Pacific, but so far they have not made a statement.

In response to the derailment, the City of Mosier issued a "Sewer Emergency", advising residents to not flush toilets, or run water down sinks or tubs. 

An air quality alert has been issued for surrounding areas because of the smoke. People with respiratory issues like asthma or lung disease should stay indoors.

The Federal Railroad Administration says it has investigators en route. Portland Airport Fire & Rescue is also headed to the Gorge to supply aid. They are taking a specialized truck that carries about 1,300 gallons of fire suppression foam.
