SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office helicopter Air 1 helped find two missing fishermen on Friday, June 3.  The two men were reported missing around 11:50 p.m. The family said they were overdue from their fishing trip by several hours and no one could get in touch with them.

Deputies searched several lakes in Spokane and Whitman Counties, and found the duo's truck and empty boat trailer at the Rock Lake boat launch.

Whitman County deputies helped Spokane County deputies search the large Rock Lake area. while Air 1 searched the lake's extensive shoreline from above.

Several miles from the boat launch, deputies on scene saw a small light in the distance and a SAR boat was dispatched. When Air 1 arrived on scene, they located a campfire, boat and two people on the shoreline. Deputies on board the helicopter directed the SAR boat to rescue the two men, one in his 50s and one in his 60s.

The two men had run out of gas and their trolling motor battery had died. There was no cell service at the lake to make a call for help. They told their rescuers they tried walking their boat down the shoreline a few miles before becoming exhausted and building a campfire on shore to stay warm and cook fish they caught until sunrise.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office released Air 1 video of the rescue on their YouTube channel. Watch clips of the scene below.

What's the first thing you would do if you had a pet translator and you could understand your dog or cat? I'd probably immediately let my cat know how sorry I am for stepping on her tail all those times. Recent advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning suggest the dream of communicating with your pets could become a reality.
