SPOKANE, Wash. - Update: Spokane firefighters say the iconic Shogun restaurant on E. 3rd Ave. appears to be a total loss after an early morning fire destroyed the building. First arriving companies found heavy fire coming through the roof of the Shogun Restaurant and immediately began to attack the fire. Despite attempts to enter the building, they were quickly forced out due to deteriorating conditions above them.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A 9-year-old boy died in an all-terrain vehicle crash on a rural road north of Boulder over the weekend. The Montana Highway Patrol says the ATV went off Sloans Lane early Sunday afternoon and tipped onto its side. The boy was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. His name has not been released.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) - A Navajo Code Talker who used his native language to confound the Japanese in World War II has died. The Navajo Nation says Roy Hawthorne Sr. died Saturday. He was 92. Hawthorne enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at 17 and became part of a famed group of Navajos who transmitted hundreds of messages in their language without error. The code was never broken.
