COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

Coeur d'Alene is gearing up for a few big events. the "Car d'Alene" car show this weekend, the half ironman next weekend, and the Fourth of July the following weekend. With so many extra people in town, the Fire Department has their hands full.

Dean Carriveau can't wait for car d'Alene.

"In one word? It's awesome. It's the best in our area, there's nothing like it," Carriveau said.

He bought his car for his wife more than thirty years ago and says it's full of memories, like bringing his daughter home from the hospital.

Like so many here in town this weekend, he drove to Coeur d'Alene  to show it off. He's one of 600 cars registered here so far, and with each car, comes family and friends to come watch. That's quite a bit more traffic than the Lake City is used to. That's where Glenn Lauper comes in. He's the Deputy Fire Chief.

"We're doing safety inspections for all the events that are going to occur in Coeur d'Alene this weekend," he explained.

He says there are three main things they're preparing for:

1- crowd control

2- making sure emergency vehicles have access

3- planning for severe weather.

The Fire Department planning for the worst means folks like Carriveau can concentrate on having fun.

"It's really is a great show," Carriveau said. "There's so much to see!"

Car d'Alene goes on from 6pm-9pm Friday and 8am-4pm Sunday.
