Coeur d'Alene Police arrested a man early Tuesday morning who confessed to firing a rifle in the direction of a housing subdivision, hitting at least two homes.

Officers received reports just after midnight of multiple gunshots in the area of Hawks Nest and Coeur d'Alene Place subdivisions. Police confirmed two occupied homes were hit with bullets, and one person was nearly hit.

Officers located 28-year-old Travis Gregory Duff behind his home on Atlas Road with a handgun. Officers say Duff was not initially cooperative but eventually dropped his gun. However, Duff would not move away from the weapon so officers used a Taser to take him down. While in custody, Duff admitted to firing three rifle rounds in the direction of the neighborhood. He was then arrested and charged with two felony counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm and Occupied Dwelling.

Officers located Duff's rifle and are continuing to investigate the incident. At this time, they say the motive for the shooting is unclear.
