Man in Whitman County Jail after shooting in Tekoa

TEKOA, Wash. -

Right now a man is in jail after an altercation leads to shooting in Tekoa, WA.
At approximately 11pm on July 4th, Whitman County Deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the 100 Block of N. Howard in Tekoa, WA.

After making contact with the victim, identified as 36-year-old Boris Titov of Spokane, WA deputies determined he had been shot the leg at least once and possibly stabbed after he and another man’s argument turned into a physical altercation. Titov was airlifted via Med-Star to Sacred Heart in Spokane, WA for treatment of his injuries. Those injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time.

Deputies then made contact with 63-year-old Jerry J. Tkach of Spokane, WA outside C and D’s Tavern in Tekoa, WA. Tkach told deputies he and Titov had been staying with friends in Tekoa for the 4th of July, when the two started to argue. Tkach admitted to deputies that he shot the victim only in self-defense after Titov tried to assault him with a metal pipe.

Tkach was arrested and booked into the Whitman County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Assault.

Deputies were able to recover a small caliber handgun, located on Tkach’s person at the time of his arrest.

Tkach will have his first appearance Tuesday afternoon in Whitman County Superior Court.

Investigation ongoing.
