SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

A Spokane Valley grandmother is heartbroken after a fountain she had just installed in her front yard is taken almost just as quickly.

Mae Sheehan, 82, takes great pride in her garden. But now, there sits a hole where the centerpiece used to be.

“To have somebody come and take it all - the elephants, the frog, the pumps. I just can't believe it was gone. I’m heartsick over it,” she says.

It might seem trivial to some, but for Mae, “it was so special to me because it's something I’ve always wanted since I was knee high to a grasshopper,” she says.

She spent nearly two years saving up. It’s the first major splurge of her life. She worked 20-hour shifts to raise three kids before retiring, and she says everything went to her children. Now, just when she thought she could treat herself, she's back to scrimping and saving to replace her fountain.

“It just breaks my heart to think that somebody could be that low,” she says.

Mae has one message for whoever dug it out of the ground.

“I just wish they'd bring it back that's all. I wish they'd just quit stealing stuff that's it.”

Mae did report the theft to Spokane Valley police. Right now, there aren’t any suspects, but if you have any information on the crime, call Crime Check 509-456-2233. Officers also want to remind people to mark their belonging with an identifier or take down serial numbers of their products.
