Pullman Police issue arrest warrant for Spokane man after motel fire

PULLMAN, Wash. -

Pullman Police have issued an arrest warrant for a Spokane man in connection with an arson fire Tuesday morning at the American Travel Inn. Police say the warrant is for 39-year-old William John Young II. He is wanted for arson in the first degree and harassment.

Pullman fire marshal Chris Wehrung said he estimated damage to the motel at between $80,000 and $100,000. He said evidence from the fire scene was collected by police officers.

Firefighters were called to the two story motel on Grand Avenue around 4:45 Tuesday morning and found one of the upper rooms ablaze. Crews were able to keep the fire contained to that room, which is at the far end of the motel, but there was minor damage to nearby rooms as well as some water damage to the room directly below the fire.

Two employees of a Spokane construction firm were staying in the room, They were in town working at a north area apartment complex. Both escaped unharmed.

No one was hurt.
