Post Falls man sentenced to prison for murder for hire, drug charges

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

A Post Falls man has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for drug charges and a charge of murder for hire.

U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge sentenced 56-year-old Darin Kyle Taylor to 120 months in prison, followed by three years supervised release for the use of interstate facilities in the commission of murder for hire, and 121 months in prison, followed by five years supervised release for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Taylor pleaded guilty to those charges in December of last year.

According to plea agreements, on June 17 and June 30, 2015, Idaho State Police worked with a confidential informant to purchase methamphetamine from Taylor at his Post Falls house. On July 1, 2015, officers served a search warrant at Taylor's house and seized methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, cash and guns.

Later in August, the day after Taylor was indicted by a federal grand jury on drug charges, Taylor met with a confidential informant working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco. Firearms and Explosives. Taylor told the ATF informant that he would pay cash if he agreed to kill someone. Taylor was arrested shortly after that conversation and has been in federal custody ever since.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It's been nearly one week since Washington voters passed Initiative 1639, a sweeping package of stricter gun regulations - particularly for semiautomatic rifles. While the measure raises the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic rifles to 21, creates enhanced background checks, and forces customers to wait 10 days before taking possession of the firearm, I-1639 lays the framework for "safe storage" of semiautomatic rifles
