Rathdrum grocery store employees save woman's life

Posted: Updated:

What does it take to be a hero? It just takes one moment, for someone to step up and do something great. The Rathdrum Police Department says that's exactly what happened when two Super One employees saw a woman in trouble and sprang into action.

For Rhonda Langlitz, it was a normal day at work, until one of her coworkers ran in and said there was an emergency in the parking lot. While he was putting carts away, he saw a woman passed out in her car. She was shaking, pale, and sweaty. He tried the door handle, but it was locked.

When they got there, Langlitz recognized the woman in the car as one of her coworkers. She called 911, who said they were sending crews out to help. But Langlitz said there was no time to waste.

"It was crazy hot, and we knew we couldn't wait," Langlitz said.

With some help from bystanders, they broke the window to her car with a rock, and pulled her out. Once she was out, it was clear the woman was overheated, so they poured water on her. While Rhonda was pouring the water, EMTs arrived. Once they got there, they told Rhonda and her coworker the woman would have died if she had been locked in there much longer.
