SPOKANE, Wash. -

The selection committee of the Spokane Office of Police Ombudsman Commission (OPOC) has narrowed it down to two candidates for the Ombudsman position.

11 people applied for the job, and five of those were selected for interviews. Three of those five candidates dropped out before the interviews, so now it's down to two candidates.

The two candidates remaining are Jacquelyn MacConnell and Bart Logue. As for professional experience, MacConnell rose through the ranks to Bureau Commander at the Phoenix Police Department in Arizona. Logue served as a military policeman for more than 20 years,

The two candidates will be formally introduced as candidates to the OPOC on August 2nd. If the OPOC approves of them, community meetings and interviews will be held with the candidates in mid-August.

As it stands, the City of Spokane has been without an Ombudsman for almost 20 months. The job of the Ombudsman is to investigate citizen complaints against the police department.

Gap Inc. is considering closing hundreds of it's stores across the country as sales continue to slide.  The store known for low prices on clothing had a downturn of 7% in the third quarter despite 7 consecutive quarters of positive growth. Gap Inc. CEO Art Peck says the company may have "kicked the can down the road" on Gap closings, and now may be the time to close stores to help the company stay healthy.
