PULLMAN, Wash. -

A brutal attack put two WSU college students in the hospital early Saturday morning. Pullman Police are now investigating what happened.

Police responded to a fight at a house party around 2 a.m. Witnesses told police it was a group of football players who assaulted at least four people.

One was left unconscious and another had a broken jaw. Alex Rodriguez had his jaw busted, and underwent reconstructive surgery at Pullman Regional Hospital Saturday morning.

“Nobody's supposed to get a 2 o'clock phone call from your son saying he's in the emergency room because of these cowards,” says Susana Senent, Alex’s mom.

She’s been at the hospital ever since she got the call and was told that based on the force, he was most likely kicked in the face.

“He will never have the same bite. His jaw will never be the same,” she says.

This all happened when Alex and his friends noticed some people setting off fireworks at their house during the party. They told the group of people to leave, and witnesses say that’s when the group got mad.

“Then it just all happened. Punches being thrown,” says Dylan Rollins, one of the witnesses.

He saw Alex hit the ground.

“I tried getting him up. I said, 'Alex we got to go. you're getting hit' and then I got punched in the face,” Rollins says.

A nightmare turned into reality when Dylan saw Alex with his busted jaw.

“It was just bloody everywhere,” he says. “I was worried because I thought my friends were in danger. I was trying to stop the fight. Everyone just wanted the fight to stop.”

Senent just doesn’t want this to happen to any other parent.

“Today it's my son. Tomorrow it could be another kid. And the injury could be worse. Someone's got to put a stop on this behavior. This is not something a parent should tolerate from anybody,” she says.

Alex still has a long road to recovery. He can only drink liquids for six weeks and has multiple checkups to go to.
