Hazmat response called for building at Fairchild Air Force Base

SPOKANE, Wash. -

UPDATE: Friday, Fairchild Airforce Base said in a press release, "The cause of the incident was that multiple air fresheners were placed in a confined area, when the HVAC system turned on it caused irritation to the personnel." They went on to say everyone who reported feeling ill had since been released from the hospital.

UPDATE: Representatives with Fairchild Air Force Base corrected the number of people treated at local hospitals from 14 people to 11 people.

PREVIOUS: Representatives with Fairchild Air Force Base say a HAZMAT response was called to their Logistics Readiness Squadron, Building 2045. They say at about 8:30 Thursday morning, 24 people reported "feeling affected by an unknown irritant."

The base says 14 people were treated on the scene, and then sent to the hospital. The building is evacuated right now, however the rest of the base is not. 

The incident is under investigation.
