Simone Biles' biological mother speaks out about past drug addiction

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - By now most have heard the life-story of USA Olympic gymnast, Simone Biles. Simone and her younger sister were adopted by their grandfather and his wife when they were little because their biological mother, Shannon Biles, struggled with drug addiction. Simone has said before that she's always considered her grandparents to be her mother and father, but in a new interview with TMZ, her biological mother took the opportunity to tell Simone how proud she is of her too, even though she doesn't get to see her often.

Shannon Biles spoke openly about her drug addiction and how she doesn't like the way the media has portrayed her saying, "I feel like they're defaming my character because I know it happened, I was struggling back then. I've gotten better, life goes on and that's my past and that's what it should be left at, the past."

She also spoke about her father and the way he's contributed to how she's been portrayed saying, "I feel like he didn't have to be so harsh about it. I am his first born and he could have been a little bit more classy with it. You know? He didn't have to throw me under the bus like that. I mean, I did go through my struggles and everything, but you didn't have to go through it like the way you went through it."

On the topic of her daughter, Shannon says she couldn't be more proud. "I've been following her for years. I'm so proud. I mean I'm just proud. I mean ecstatic. I mean speechless! It's priceless!"

Although filled with enthusiasm and pride for her daughter, it doesn't sound like Shannon gets to see her daughter often although she does make an effort to talk to her, see her and support her when she can. "When we do talk it's briefly, I want to say maybe every three months, you know when I call, when she calls. We have vacation together. I was invited when she won her first title, her championship, the PNG in 2014 I was invited there, in Pittsburgh. We went on a cruise together in 2009, that was like a family reunion. Before then I was invited to the Expo Center here in Columbus, a competition that was way before the Olympics. I've been invited in October when she goes on her signing tour. I speak to her when I can, you know, she's very busy."

Shannon ended her interview with a heartfelt message to her daughter, "I just want to say I love you Simone. I'm so proud of you. Go Team USA! And I'll talk to you and see you when I can."

KHQ.COM - When you party with Jay-Z, just make sure you don't get stuck with the bill.  During a night out in Manhattan, he reportedly racked up a tab totaling $91,135 (tip included) at one bar! How much of that was a tip?  $11,100! Which means his server Dayhana is probably the most grateful the rapper chose to celebrate at the Playroom Lounge in NYC.
