Small Mead cemetery dealing with break in

Posted: Updated:
MEAD, Wash. -

A small historic cemetery is trying to dig itself out of a nasty situation Wednesday after someone stole hundreds of dollars worth of equipment from a storage shed. It happened at the Peone Cemetery in Mead, Washington, near highway 206 northeast of Spokane.

Dale Baker volunteers at the cemetery and says they only operate at cost. He says burglars broke the lock off a shed and made off with gas and tools, leaving behind a pricey repair bill.

"We're a country cemetery, we're totally volunteer... the board, myself, all the grave diggers are all volunteers," Baker explains, "This is all done out of the goodness of our hearts and for the community, and these people think they can just come out and steal from us."

For Baker, it's not just business, it's also personal. Several of his family members are buried at the cemetery. Now he has a message for the burglars.

"I hope you can look yourself in the mirror in the morning and say, 'Yeah, I stole from a cemetery.'"

If you know anything about this burglary, please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

I'm more of a dog person, but if there is a place that is willing to pay me to live on an island in Greece and take care of cats, I'll become a feline fanatic.  Well, there is someone offering such a job right now and they claim it's a real opening.  God's Little People Cat Rescue posted on Facebook that they are looking for someone who can look after 55 cats on a little Greek island paradise called Syros.
