Woman shot in Spokane's Manito Park; suspect in custody

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Update 6 p.m.: Spokane Police say a man is in custody in connection to Saturday morning's shooting in Manito Park that sent a woman to the hospital. 18-year-old Jensen Stauffer was booked into Spokane County Jail just before 5 p.m. Saturday. He was charged with 3rd degree assault.

Update: Police confirm a woman was shot in Spokane's Manito Park on Saturday. They say she was taken in an ambulance to a local hospital.

Manito Park has reopened after being shut down for a short time while police conducted their investigation and interviewed witnesses to the shooting. Police do not have a shooter in custody and are still investigating Saturday afternoon. Police say they are searching for a male person of interest and that the victim and the shooter know each other.

The woman's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police say there is no threat to the community and they will be on scene collecting evidence Saturday.

As soon as we learn more we will update this story.

There is heavy police presence in Manito Park Saturday afternoon. Witnesses in the park report a woman was shot. 

Officers have blocked off roads around the park while they search the area and interview people in the park. Paramedics were seen tending to someone at the park shortly before noon on Saturday. Police are asking the public to avoid the area while they investigate.

Witnesses told KHQ's Katie Chen that a woman was shot. This has not yet been confirmed by police. There is no word yet on the extent of her injuries.

    HONOLULU (AP) - Engineers say damage to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu was worse than expected and it will remain closed indefinitely.    Hawaii News Now reports boat transportation to the attraction was suspended May 6 after one of the vessel operators noticed a crack on the outside of the memorial.

(AP) - Florida authorities say a woman who was beaten and held captive for two days at gunpoint by her boyfriend escaped when she convinced him bring their dog to an animal hospital - and then slipped a note to a staff member. The Daytona Beach News-Journal quotes the Volusia County Sheriff's Office as saying 39-year-old Jeremy Floyd was arrested at DeLand Animal Hospital. He is being held without bond on domestic violence and other charges.
