KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho -

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office reports a man was seriously injured after being hit by a car Sunday afternoon.

Deputies arrived on the scene near 22445 N Abbott Road around 4:10 p.m. Deputies soon learned that a Toyota Camry driven by 86-year-old Sanford L. Johnson of Athol was headed southbound on Abbott. He did not see a bicyclist headed the same direction and hit the cyclist, identified as 65-year-old Richard B Feldman of Hayden, from behind. Feldman was thrown from the bike and landed on the hood and windshield. As a result, the bike rider sustained severe injuries to his right arm and lower body.

Feldman was taken to Kootenai Health where he is being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
