Car crashes into building causing gas leak on E. Sprague

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning authorities responded to a car crash at Sprague and Sherman just East of downtown Spokane. We are told that the driver of the car crashed into a building causing a gas leak. Immediately following the crash, Avista crews were on scene.

Two people were in the car at the time. We know one person was transported to the hospital with critical injuries but we don't know the condition of the second person.

Sprague is currently closed between Grant and Hatch while crews work to clear the crash and fix the gas leak.

As soon as we get more information, we will update this story.

    A moderate earthquake in Alaska's Cook Inlet has jolted a large section of the state.    The Alaska Earthquake Center says the magnitude 5.7 quake Wednesday was widely felt in Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula.    There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.    The earthquake occurred at 9:21 a.m. and was centered 70 miles northwest of the fishing and tourism community of Homer.     U.S. long-term mortgage rates recorded the biggest drop in nearly four years this week, but remain much higher than they were a year ago.    Mortgage giant Freddie Mac says the average rate on the benchmark 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage fell to 4.81 percent this week, down from 4.94 percent a week earlier. It was the biggest weekly drop since January 2015. But the 30-year rate was still up from 3.92 percent a year ago.
