Coeur d'Alene Police have arrested a 31-year-old man and charged him with felony injury to a child after his step-son was found with severe head injuries Friday night.

Officers responded to 815 N. 5th St. just before 7 p.m. Friday. On scene they found a 17-month-old baby who was having breathing difficulties and showed signs of obvious head trauma. The baby was taken to Kootenai Health before being air lifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Medical personnel determined the baby had severe trauma to his skull and brain.

On scene, officers spoke with Joseph John Davis who was home alone with the baby. Davis is the baby's step-father. Davis told police he had been home alone with the baby for about 20 minutes and claimed he didn't know what caused the injuries.

Davis was interviewed by police and later arrested and charged with felony injury to a child.

The investigation is ongoing.

The baby's family has stated a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the baby's medical bills.
