SPOKANE, Wash. -

After a man was heard screaming in the Spokane River near the TJ Meenach Bridge, authorities were called to the area for a water rescue. The witness who made the emergency call was able to lead first responders immediately to the area of the river where the victim was. That man was pulled quickly from the river and could be heard yelling while first responders wheeled him off in a stretcher.

According to Asst. Fire Chief, Brian Schaeffer, the man was conscious but incoherent because he was so cold. He is currently in the hospital in critical condition and has been able to give authorities limited details that make them believe there could be another female victim and possibly a vehicle still in the river.

According the man rescued from the water, he and his wife are from Montana, but living in Spokane right now. She was driving and he was sleeping and the next thing he knew, he woke up to their vehicle upside down, in the river, filling with water. He was able to escape from the car but he was not able to say what happened to his wife. He also couldn't give specific details as to exactly where the car went into the river.

Several boats have been deployed in the area while the search continues for the vehicle and the female who is described as white woman, wearing a bright pink top. Ideally, crews would like to be able to launch a helicopter to use the heat sensor to find the woman however, because of the cloud coverage today, it's not safe to fly a helicopter. If conditions clear up, a helicopter will be deployed.
