Sacred Heart program helps kids with cancer keep up with school

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

NEWESD 101 is working with Sacred Heart to make sure kids at the hospital can keep up with school.

The program is funded by the Rypien Foundation. Teachers like Amy Larson come to the hospital and teach students there grades K-12, so they don't fall behind.

One of her students is Cory Mendez, a nine year old battling cancer.

"I taught Cory in her hospital room when she wasn't at a place where she could leave her room," Larson explained.

Sacred Heart also has a small classroom at the hospital for when students are feeling well enough to leave their beds.

"If you're in this case don't be worried," Mendez said. "They will help you. Come see Ms. Amy."

Banksy posts video saying incomplete shredding a malfunction

    Wednesday, October 17 2018 10:08 PM EDT2018-10-18 02:08:31 GMT

Banksy has posted a video to his website in which he implies the shredding of his "Girl With Balloon" at a Sotheby's auction in London was supposed to have been complete.    Instead, the canvas was only partially shredded after the hammer came down on a winning bid of $1.4 million, to the shock of the crowd. The auction house says the winning bidder decided to buy it anyway at that price.

KHQ was at the Cheney-Spokane overpass with a group of die-hard cougar fans, waiting for the college game day truck to pass underneath them. There were groups of people all over Highway 195 on the way to Pullman. The crowd on the overpass waited a long time for the truck to show up. They kept pushing back their arrival, at one point it was supposed to drive around 10:30 AM. Then around noon KHQ heard they pulled over to a gas station off the Broadway exit. SPOKANE, Wash. - Feel like you have to keep swatting bugs away when you've been walking outside this week? What you might be calling gnats, are really blue ash aphids. And right now they are more active than ever, because it's mating season. KHQ met a couple who noticed the blue ash aphids right when they started their walk in the park.
