15-year-old pistol-whipped by stranger at Spokane park

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

A 15-year-old boy is OK, but he says he could’ve died after an attack in North Spokane.

He says he was hanging out with his friends at Shadle Park when he was pistol-whipped by a complete stranger. After six staples in his head, he’s OK, but his mom now has a warning for the community.

Shannon Holly took her kids to Shadle Park all the time, so she never imagined that her 15-year-old son would get attacked there.

On Friday, after he got let out, he asked his mom if he could hang out at the park with two of his friends. Then, three strangers approached them and started to bother them.

“There was nothing that provoked it. There was nothing,” Shannon says. “It was ridiculous that at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and you can't hang out at a park.”

She says the guys started to chase him and his friends. His two friends got away, but one of the attackers hit her son on the back of the head with a gun. Shannon found out when he showed up at her work. She says he kept saying the word gun and had blood dripping down his face from his head.

“When I saw him sitting there I just couldn't process what had happened. It was ridiculous. I just saw you. How did this happen?” she says.

The attackers didn't take anything from him. But now Shannon is worried and urges other parents to keep a watchful eye.

“Watch your kids and just be careful,” she says.

Police are investigating this attack. No arrests have been made yet.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Crime is becoming a growing concern in parts of downtown Spokane-- and police are getting all to familiar with it. The worse it gets, the fewer people want to spend time there-- which only creates a vicious cycle. Tonight while while we were in the downtown neighborhood, we saw firsthand what businesses and police are worried about and say they see every day. "I think most areas are overall safe," Officer John O'Brien

Books, sure. But would you expect video equipment, upholstery kits, or museum passes at the library ? all available for checkout? Many libraries are offering more nontraditional items and programs than ever. KHQ.COM - Thousands of Irish citizens currently living out of the country are traveling home to Ireland to vote on repealing a longstanding law that outlaws abortions. The polls will open on May 25th to vote to repeal the eighth amendment, which currently gives equal rights to the life of an unborn child. Just landed in from Newcastle NSW via Sydney and Abu Dhabi. I’ll see yez at the polls.
