Coeur d'Alene homeowner finds thief in basement

Posted: Updated:

Coeur d'Alene Police are reminding people to keep their homes and cars locked after one homeowner came face-to-face with a thief in his basement. It happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Coeur d'Alene Place neighborhood, near Lake City High School.

The homeowner went to investigate noises coming from the basement and was confronted by an unknown man who had gotten into his house. The intruder was able to run away and no one was hurt. Even though patrol officers arrived a short time later, the intruder wasn't found and is still on the loose.

Police say that, especially during the holidays, it's not uncommon for thieves to check locks on houses and cars to try to grab things that can be quickly taken. They ask that if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to call police.
