Phoenix hits 117 degrees Friday, breaks record set in 1905

PHOENIX, Ariz. -

Phoenix has broken a 112-year record for heat.

National Weather Service meteorologists say the Arizona city had a high of 117 degrees on Friday.

That broke the previous mark of 115 degrees dating back to 1905.

Meteorologists say the normal high temperature for July 7 in Phoenix is 107 degrees.

So far this year, the temperature at Sky Harbor Airport has reached at least 110 degrees 17 times.

In California, a heat advisory in the San Joaquin Valley warned of temperatures from 103 to 107 through Saturday.

(AP) - A new 100-bed psychiatric hospital is coming to Spokane.    The Inland Northwest Behavioral Health hospital, which opens to patients in October, will have about 200 employees.    The Spokesman-Review says the $33 million facility will be split into four units, each with 25 beds for inpatient services. One unit will be reserved for adolescent patients between the ages of 13 and 17.

    STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - The Stevens County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate dog breeding operations in Suncrest and Ford.  Deputies reported Friday that they have taken every photo they have received of people's lost or stolen pets and compared them to the 255 dogs recovered from the two puppy mills. No photos matched. They also checked every dog for microchips and have confirmed there are no stolen chipped dogs.
