Kennewick murder suspect captured in motel

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash. -

Authorities say officers arrested a Kennewick man suspected of murder after spotting his car in a motel parking lot.

Pasco police  say they were following a car Thursday night in an unrelated case when they saw a car linked to suspect Stephen Morfin.

Kennewick Sgt. Randy Maynard says the car matched the description of one allegedly seen leaving after the Sept. 11 shooting of Martin Ibanez.

Pasco Sgt. Chad Pettijohn says additional officers were called to arrest Morfin in one of the rooms early Friday.

Detectives believe Ibanez was in a Kennewick home's driveway when Morfin allegedly got out his car and shot Ibanez several times before fleeing. Ibanez died later at a hospital.

Detectives haven't revealed if there was a connection between Ibanez and Morfin.

Morfin was booked into jail on a 72-hour investigative hold for murder.

SPOKANE, Wash. - From the outside, the Repeat Boutique looks like a lot of other thrift shops in Spokane.  Inside, some might describe the stuff for sale as old, used, discarded garbage -- but store manager CJ Curtis sees its potential. And just like the goods in her shop, CJ is on her way to a new life, one far from the one she once lived.

SPOKANE, Wash. - "He told me to pull over, and my jaw just dropped," a Spokane woman, who says a fake police officer tried to pull her over, doesn't want to be named. In fear, this could happen again. "It really scared me and kind of threw me off that night. I don't even want to drive by myself anymore," she said. She tells me that she was driving around North Spokane at night on her way home from work.
