Election candidate makes public debut after drunk driving arrest

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

A drunk driving arrest hasn't stopped Adam Papini from running for Municipal Court Judge.

After being arrested back in June, for drunk driving while his 10-year-old son was still in the car, Adam Papini remained strong at a judicial candidates forum at the Spokane Club. In fact, Papini showed that this arrest could even help him be a better judge, "I know what it's like to be someone charged with a crime. I know what it's like to be a prosecutor and a public defender."

Facing off against the incumbent Tracy Staab in November, Papini hasn't been seen at any public events since his arrest. While it isn't uncommon for a candidate to step out of the race, it has been uncommon that Papini has remained silent even to the Spokane County Bar Association, as reported by the Spokesman-Review.

Papini told the audience at the forum that he doesn't expect to win but, "until the gavel falls, until a jury comes back with guilty, or until I enter a plea, I stand before you an innocent man."
