Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

It's something you;d read from a Hollywood movie script; a safe cracker that doesn't walk through the front door.

The self storage unit facility is like Fort Knox; barbed wire fencing and reinforced gates with security cameras all over.

But this criminal decided to take a chance.

44-year-old Gordon Christenson broke through the barbed wire fence and then peeled back the metal exterior wall to a random storage unit. Then busting through the dry wall, hitting the jackpot. In the unit was a safe holding 17-thousand dollars, and a pistol  and a stereo system was also reported stolen.

Christenson and his girlfriend Niki Lovitt live just down the road from this unit at this apartment complex.

Christenson used 3500 dollars of the  stolen cash to buy two cars a BMW and a VW Passat. He also purchased a silver Harley Davidson motorcycle for $5,000 dollars. He also gave his girlfriend Niki several thousand dollars to go on a shopping spree.

Police said  Christenson was so, amped up about finding the money he does not know exactly what else he took from the storage unit. They also found heroin residue and scales in the apartment. Christenson was booked for burglary theft in the first degree  theft of a firearm , unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
