Mead bus driver under investigation after alleged incident with student

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Mead School District is investigating one of their bus drivers after parents complained about multiple altercations between their child and the driver.

“No bus driver is ever supposed to put their hands on the kids,” said the boys’ father, Shadd Campbell. “I don’t think kids should be unsafe or scared on the bus on their way to school.”

The first alleged incident happened on Monday, Oct. 2, when the Campbells' son and another student got into an argument.

According to the boys’ parents, the bus driver grabbed him on the wrist and pulled him to another seat. The bus driver's grip was so tight that it left fingernail marks on their son’s wrist, according to the parents.

After the alleged incident, the bus driver was taken off of the Campbells' son’s route and investigated.

According to the parents, the driver was back on the same route by Friday when a second incident occurred.

“He [son] went to step in the bus and the driver looked at him and slammed the door on him,” said Campbell. “It was the first time I’ve ever had a kid tell us they’re scared on the bus.”

The Mead School District has reviewed security video of the alleged incident. They say it appears in the video that the driver made a mistake. Nevertheless, the driver has been taken off the route pending an investigation.

The Campbell’s believe it was in retaliation, and say they want the driver permanently taken off their son’s route.
