An age limit on trick-or-treating? One Canadian town says yes!

Posted: Updated:
BATHURST, N.B., Canada -

The City Council in Bathurst, New Brunswick is looking to set an age limit on those who can go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

The Canadian Press says the council is looking to pass a set of rules that will prohibit people over the age of 16 from trick-or-treating. People who are too old or out past the proposed curfew (8:00 p.m.) could be fined $200.

Newsweek reports these regulations are actually a modification of a current policy banning kids 14 and up from trick-or-treating and cutting off the celebration at 7:00 p.m, a policy that has already been in place for 14 years. So actually, the new rules are a little more lenient than the old ones.

"Some kids are tall," Deputy Mayor Kim Chamberlain told CBC. "My cousin's son is 5'4 and 15 years old. What are we going to do, go up to him and ask him, 'How old are you?' and 'Show me your ID?' That doesn't make sense."

What do you think? Should there be an age limit and curfew on trick-or-treating?
