MOSES LAKE, Wash. -

A gunshot and a panicked phone call lead police to arrest a convicted felon with a firearm.

Early Thursday morning, Moses Lake Police Officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation on Kittleson Road. Inside were three people, including 26-year-old Rogelio Gutierrez Mata from Royal City. After issuing the driver a citation, officers let the car go. Little did they know, they would see those three again soon.

A short time later, officers arrived to a hotel in the area after two people had locked themselves inside the lobby bathroom in a panic and called 911. When officers arrived, they found it to be two of the people from the traffic stop. They told the officers that Gutierrez Mata had been armed with a gun during the traffic stop, and as soon as the officers left, he had gotten out of the car and they heard a gunshot. In a panic, they ran to the hotel and hid. The two also told the officers that they had smoked methamphetamine, so many of the details were not crystal clear (no pun intended).

While the officers were out looking for Gutierrez Mata, he called from near the high school asking for a ride. Officers found him on Pioneer Way, and arrested him. Officers searched the area and found a .380 caliber handgun hidden nearby. It matched the description given to the officers by the two that called police.

Gutierrez Mata was found to be a convicted felon and was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It's been an incredibly difficult couple of months for Kaley Hilderbrand and her family. "We're in the middle of moving from an apartment to a house," Hilderbrand said.  It's not something the mom of a brand new baby girl though she would be doing. Back in April, the soon-to-be-married mother of three was living in a north Spokane apartment complex when she received an angry letter about doing laundry at night.
