Semi hauling 10,000 pounds of explosives crashes near Potlatch, Idaho

POTLATCH, Idaho - Multiple homeowners had to be evacuated and highway 95 had to be shut down for several hours after a semi truck hauling about 10,000 pounds of explosive, hazardous material crashed.

The crash happened happened just before 2am on Highway 95 at milepost 363 just north of the Potlatch, Idaho "Y."

The Explosive Response Team set up an evacuation zone of a half mile until the cargo was safely unloaded and removed from the scene. The highway was blocked for four and a half hours but as of 8am, the material has been removed, the evacuation order has been lifted and the roadway is back open.

The driver of the truck was wearing a seatbelt and has been cited for the crash.

The investigation in ongoing.
