Hillyard neighbors say trailer is turning their neighborhood into a 'war zone'

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

Neighbors and business owners in Hillyard tell KHQ they don't know how much more they can take. They said a motorhome is attracting all kinds of trouble. Piles of trash surround it, and neighbors said it is a magnet for crime. They said even human waste is going into the roadway.

"It's a war zone," said one neighbor.

"It's nothing but trouble," said another.

Bryan Caudill of Inland Towing said they've been battling to get the motorhome out of the area for several weeks.

"It's been three months of burglaries," he said. "We've called probably 100 times, the police, code enforcement."

But he believes those inside have found a way to beat the system.

"The police come out," he said. "They tag it. They then move it 10 feet."

And he says the process only continues. He said sometimes they'll move it a few blocks, other times just 10 to 20 feet, but never far enough for neighbors to feel comfortable. He said the frustration has led to violence.

"Someone doesn't want him parking here besides us," he said. "Someone through (an explosive) at it last night. It caught the thing on fire."

Bryan said he's installed security equipment and utilized Avista for improved lighting, and that's not all.

"I have someone sleeping in the yard as of tonight, so there's always security inside the yard," he said.

We did reach out to code enforcement Monday, but airtime, our calls were not returned.
