Car prowlers arrested in luxury SUV

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

You wouldn't suspect thieves to be rolling around in an 80-thousand dollar luxury SUV to car prowl But that's exactly what troopers say these suspects did. They're renting luxury cars to throw off suspicion and not be caught riding dirty "We know it was rented on the west side of the state where it went between there and where we are at today will be part of the investigation,"said Trooper Jeff Sevingey

And these car prowlers hit three cars within 45 minutes of each other in Post Falls. Thankfully  a stolen cell phone was able to ping them to the location of the stolen Infinite SUV the SUV was rented near Seattle Tacoma airport. Troopers say that it's not the first time that a thief has used a rental car to commit a crime,  "Certainly, makes sense when you think about it. The vehicle is not associated with the specific individual which would make it more difficult for law enforcement to track but not impossible," said Trooper Sevingey.

Law enforcement works closely with rental car agencies to investigate these crimes. Trooper Jeff Sevingey says these car prowlers will look for anything to fund other illegal activity they might be involved in  "they're crimes of opportunity so anything of value that they could eventually get rid of to drive some sort of income."

Today, it was a win for Washington State Patrol  "it was good news today we got a couple bad guys off the street," Sevingey added.
