SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.V. -

A West Virginia man facing up to 20 years in prison walked out of jail Wednesday morning dressed in khaki pants and a button-up shirt, instead of an orange jump suit and police say they weren't notified that he was missing until 43 hours later.

First Sgt. J.T. Findley said 43-year-old Todd Boyes of Caldwell, Ohio, escaped about 5 a.m. Wednesday. West Virginia State Police said they were notified at 12:30 p.m. Friday that he was missing. The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety said jail staff did not discover he was missing until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Boyes was scheduled to be sentenced to three to 20 years in prison Friday morning for fleeing and possession of a stolen car, according to WCHS-TV. He was originally charged with attempted murder after ramming a police car and injuring an officer. The charge was dropped during a plea deal.

Based on footage from the jail, Boyes got his hands on a dark shirt and khaki pants, and escaped in those clothes instead of his prison jumpsuit.

He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 220 lbs with a bald head and a clean-shaven face.

Troopers consider him armed and dangerous based on his criminal history, which includes a string of carjackings in Ohio. But they have no specific information that he is armed.

Investigators are following up on leads but do not have any solid leads on where Boyes is.
