Intersection where crash injured two considered dangerous

Posted: Updated:
REARDAN, Wash. -

Two people are in the hospital after a scary crash on the west plains at an intersection that officials have described as dangerous.

Around 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon firefighters say a red car was T-boned by a pickup truck pulling a compressor at the intersection of Coulee Hite Road and Wood Road near Reardan. Witnesses say the pickup was launched into the air, landing on its roof, and the car ended up wrapped around a nearby telephone pole.

The driver of the car was airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries. The pickup driver was also taken to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Fire Chief Nick Scharff says he's seen a jump in crashes at this intersection over the last year.

Sheriff's deputies closed the intersection for much of the evening so they could reconstruct the crash, which remains under investigation.

Chief Scharff says he'd like to see the intersection changed to a 4-way stop to make it safer for drivers who travel through it every day.
