Homeless man returns $10K check to Connecticut real estate agent

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -

A kind gesture is going viral thanks to Facebook.

Real estate agent Roberta Hoskie of New Haven, Connecticut was out when she received an unlikely phone call from a man who found a large amount of money in her name. Turns out the good Samaritan was homeless and "wanted to do the right thing."

"I don't care what you said there are so many really good people in the world, I don't know who this guy is but I dropped my check," Hoskie said.

The check was for $10,000 and Hoskie thought she left it in her car.

"I just got a call in the office from a good Samaritan, listen there's this check that I just found outside," Hoskie said in a Facebook live video.

Hector Colon called on behalf of the good Samaritan named Elmer Alvarez who picked up the check.

When the two met up on Wednesday, Hoskie learned Alvarez is homeless.

"I said why did you do this, why did you give me this check back because there's so many people who would have never given me this check, and he said that he believed in God and God told him to," Hoskie said.

Hoskie says she had to pay it forward.

Hoskie is keeping in touch with Alvarez. She is helping him find housing and a job and even went as far as offering him free classes at her real estate school.

Since she went live on Facebook, her video has been viewed more than 30,000 times.
