Family of fatal hit and run victim pleads for justice

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

A Spokane family is left with questions after they say their family member was killed in a hit and run late Saturday night.

Police responded to a pedestrian versus car accident near Newport Highway and Holland Avenue late Saturday. They say a woman was crossing the street around 8:30 pm, when a green truck hit her and then fled the scene. The driver of that truck still has not been found.

Michelle Perryman says she got the call early this morning.

“My family was calling my phone, calling my phone, texting me ‘emergency,” she says. “I found out there was a hit and run and it was my sister.”

She identifies the victim as her sister, Melissa, saying she was hit and died from her injuries.

Michelle says it was likely that her sister was walking home after buying food for her family. She says her sister is going through a difficult time, but was still a loving mother and sister. She can’t understand why this happened.

“I just don't know how this could happen. How someone could hit somebody and not stop. Not say nothing. Not do anything. It's mind-boggling,” Michelle says.

So, Michelle has a plea – for anyone with information to call police.

“My family and I need closure,” she says.

Police are still actively searching for the suspect. They say witnesses described the car as a large, green Nissan truck, possibly a Titan. If you have information, call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
