Security System Donated to Victims of Vicious Spokane Break-in

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

A family is beside themselves after a man defecated throughout their home, destroyed family pictures, flooded their basement, and then tried to light the property on fire. The tragedy had them questioning their faith in humanity until a hero stepped in to help.

"We put a lot of work into the house over the past couple months, working full time, we have four kids," said homeowner Rodney Gunther.

You name it, a vicious crook, or crooks, did it to the Gunther family dream home in the Logan neighborhood.

"I just felt hopeless," he said. "Overwhelmed."

And also disappointed that all the destruction went on without anyone noticing and calling the police.

"The hardest part for me is having so many neighbors and nobody saw anything," he said. "These guys weren't here for an hour, they were here for quite some time. I know there's a lot of evil out there. Yeah, you could say rocked my faith."

But then Michael Crouse walked into his life, and just like that, he's starting to get that faith back. Crouse owns Total Security and seconds after seeing a post Hayley Guenthner made on Facebook about the horrific home invasion, he agreed to install a state of the art security system for the family free of charge.

"This is, on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20," he said. "The destruction is everywhere. It just really hit home for me."

Crouse, a victim of a break-in once himself, said his heart broke for Rodney and his family. He said he's grateful to help.

"It means a lot," Rodney said. " A lot."

The suspect, in this case, David Berryhill, remains in the Spokane County Jail.
