Moses Lake woman arrested for attempting to sell stolen pocket watches online

Posted: Updated:
MOSES LAKE, Wash. -

Moses Lake Police Officers arrested 21-year-old Brittany Strong Wednesday morning after she attempted to sell stolen property via a Facebook buy and sell page. Just a week ago today she was arrested for stealing hundreds of pieces of mail in the Peninsula area of Moses Lake.

Officers say they received several tips from our Facebook readers Tuesday that Strong was trying to sell two antique gold watches. Given Strong’s recent activities, officers say this obviously aroused some suspicion. The watches appeared to be somewhat unique, and one of the pictures Strong posted showed an engraving with the original owner’s initials on it. Armed with that information, an officer was able to tie the watches to a burglary that took place in Moses Lake on May 1st. The officer showed the posted pictures to the owner, who positively identified the watches as stolen.

The officer then initiated a text message conversation with Strong and set up a meeting to purchase the watches. When Strong arrived at a parking lot in the 900 block of N. Stratford Road shortly after midnight, she was arrested with one of the stolen watches in her hand. A passenger in the car, 28-year-old Timothy Riggins from Othello, was arrested on a Department of Corrections warrant. Additionally, a firearm was observed on the passenger seat floorboard of the vehicle. Both Strong and Riggins are convicted felons, and both denied knowledge of the gun. A search warrant will be served on the vehicle to recover the firearm as well as any other evidence.

Strong was booked on charges of trafficking in stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property. Riggins was arrested on charges of trafficking in stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property third degree, as well as the DOC warrant.

Moses Lake Police Department would also like to take this opportunity to caution people who use online buy and sell pages. While most of the people buying and selling are legitimate, they ask that you be aware that these are almost always cash transactions, so the opportunity is ripe for robberies, fraud and other nefarious activities.
