Spokane mother warns drivers after seeing teens throw rocks at passing cars

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

One Spokane mother is urging drivers to be on the lookout after she and her fiancé see teens throwing rocks at cars near North Central High School.

Brytani Benway says on Saturday around 2 p.m. her fiancé was leaving the house.

“He walked out and he heard the rocks hitting the concrete and the cars parked below here,” Brytani says. “It made a very loud, like a gunshot noise, when it hit the concrete.”

She says they saw three teens between the ages of 12 and 14. She says each one was in a different colored hoodie – bright yellow, bright pink, and dark blue.

“I was more worried about other people's vehicles being parked down here, people driving by, that could've very easily killed or injured someone,” she says.

Brytani immediately dialed 911. The rocks she saw in the road were large. One of them was even bigger than her hand. She’s read about the dangers of this recently. In October, five teens in Michigan were charged with murder after throwing a rock from an overpass that killed a passenger.

She says that hill has been an issue before. People going up and down it have dug through her trash can and she says on top of it, there’s trash.

She just hopes that drivers are aware and she hopes that the kids understand how dangerous it is.

“I just want to see these kids staying out of trouble and I don't want to see anyone getting hurt,” she says.

Spokane police searched the area and were not able to locate suspects. If you know anything, call Crime Check 509-456-2233.
