9 injured in apparent volcano eruption near Japan ski resort

TOKYO -

 A disaster official says at least nine people have been injured by an apparent volcanic eruption and avalanche near a ski resort in central Japan.
  
Gunma prefectural official Ken Kiryu said Tuesday that details were still unclear but the people may have been injured by flying rocks, broken glass or the avalanche.
  
The Japan Meteorological Agency says snow-covered Mount Kusatsu-Shirane appeared to erupt around 10 a.m.

    COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - On July 12, officers responded to a large fight at a Coeur d'Alene McDonald's. Court documents say a Hayden man was charged with battery and malicious harassment, which is considered a hate crime in Idaho, following an investigation by police.  When officers arrived on scene, the fight had broken up, but witnesses were interviewed at the scene.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman says the shooting occurred Friday morning in the Muscoy area, east of Los Angeles. The girl died at a hospital. Bachman says adults were home at the time of the accident. Both children lived at the house.

    SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Some good news for Washington's wine industry. The World Trade Organization on Friday agreed to investigate the U.S. Trade Representative's complaint over Canada's retail wine sale restrictions. U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., says regulations in Canada currently ban imported wines from store shelves in British Columbia. But if the U.S. prevails in this dispute, Canada will have to roll back its restrictions.

    STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - The Steven's County Sheriff's Office has identified a male who was found deceased on Sunday in the Columbia River near Kettle Falls.  The man was identified by fingerprints as Leonard Tice of New Cumberland, West Virginia. His family has been notified and it is still unknown why Tice was in the Pacific Northwest. Tice's body was found floating in the middle of the Columbia River near Daisy Station on Hwy 25 South, south of Kettle Falls.
