SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A 15-year-old snowboarder was rescued from Mt. Spokane after getting lost.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the ski and snowboard park's volunteer ski patrol started looking for the boy on Feb. 24 after he called his mother and reported being lost.

The boy's phone died soon after the call, but volunteer patroller Joseph Ferraro was able to locate him with the help from a GPS location.

Sheriff's office data showed the boy's phone as being near a cell tower in Idaho. So Ferraro headed east from the chairlift the boy had been on and found him about four hours after being reported missing.

Brad McQuarrie, Mt. Spokane's manager, said on average ski patrol conducts 35 rescues a season.
