Boat, tools go missing from former Washington prison island

Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE (AP) - Authorities say tools and a boat were stolen from a Washington prison island that's home to the state Special Commitment Center.

KOMO-TV reports a 20-foot (6-meter) boat belonging to the state Department of Social and Health Services was discovered to be missing from McNeil Island on Friday.

The Washington State Patrol says a small boat without a hull number was found abandoned on the island.

The island was home to a federal prison for the decades. The facility was later turned over to the state, which operated a prison at the site that also closed.

Authorities say no one is missing from the facility operated by the Department of Social and Health Services.

Authorities say the stolen boat was last seen near Longbranch to the west of the island.

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - It's been nearly two years since anyone has seen or heard from Paul Brazeau. He was last seen at his son's wedding. His brokenhearted family reached out to KHQ's Hayley Guenthner with a letter asking for his case to be featured in our Q6 Cold Case series. The day Paul vanished started out so wonderful. "It was a happy day," said Paul's aunt Georgine Glatt.
