EAST WENATCHEE, Wash -

An 80-year-old Quincy man was cited with a hit-and-run after dozing off behind the wheel.

Around 4 p.m. on Friday, April 13, Rivercom dispatch received a report of someone in a silver pickup, driving recklessly on Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee.

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdahl said he spotted the vehicle near 3rd and Rock Island Road, where he stopped it and identified the driver. iFIBER One News reports that the man behind the wheel was 80-year-old James E. Carpenter.

Sheriff Gjesdahl said the passenger side window of the pickup was shattered, the side mirror was missing and there was glass all over inside the vehicle. Carpenter had several small cuts from glass.

The driver told the sheriff that he dozed off and couldn’t say what he hit. Several miles south, Chief Deputy Steve Groseclose discovered a damaged telephone pole and the missing mirror from the truck.

Carpenter only had minor injuries and was released after being cited with a hit-and-run.

“This is a good case for not driving when you are drowsy.  We were grateful the driver was not hurt worse,” said Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal in a news release.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It was July of 1989. A man's beaten body was found floating near the Nine Mile dam. Years and years have passed with no leads on the case. That's because investigators do not have the most crucial piece of evidence, his name. The man was someone's son, likely a friend, a neighbor. Someone out there has to be wondering what happened to him.
