Sam Strahan's mother set to speak at Art 4 Reform, an event showcasing paintings of school shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Two Spokane mothers are launching a non-profit to inspire commonsense gun laws and legislative reform for safer schools.  Carolina Johnson and her friend, Janelle Carney have started Art4Reform and hope powerful displays of art will move people to get involved with their local government and advocate for safer communities.

Johnson has spent 2 months, hundreds of hours, and many sleepless nights painting large portraits of the Parkland, Florida shooting victims. She has also painted a portrait of Sam Strahan, who lost his life in the Freeman High School shooting on September 13, 2017.

Thursday evening, those portraits will be on display for the public to view at The McGinnity Room. The event will start at 5:30 and go until 8:30.

Sam Strahan's mother will also be there to receive the painting of her son and share a few words.

The event is free to attend all donations will be going to Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action.

If you'd like more information or would like to RSVP, you can go to www.Art4Reform.com

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Coeur d'Alene Police are investigating a reported school shooting threat at Coeur d'Alene High School. A spokesperson for the district said that the threat was written on a napkin and shared  on Snapchat. It says: "CHS school shooting 10-19-18. Be ready." Police tell us that while they are still investigating whether the threat is credible, they do not believe the CHS that the note mentions is referring to Coeur d'Alene High School.
