Neighbors worried about prowler in Spokane’s West Central District

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

Neighbors in Spokane’s West Central District are worried about a prowler they say is breaking into homes, unplugging porch lights, and peaking into windows.

Erica Milward lives in the area of Sherwood and Boone and says she noticed something suspicious the night of Friday the 13th.

“I heard the front gate open and looked out the window and didn’t see anything,” said Milward. “And then I saw a man standing in front of the house by my husband's car.”

Milward says her porch lights were off, which was strange because they’re normally on throughout the night.

“So I flickered the light switch but they wouldn’t turn on,” said Milward.

Milward went back to sleep only to wake up the next morning to find her porch lights had been unplugged, a cinder block outside her kitchen window, and her 5-year-old daughter’s teeter-totter underneath her bedroom window.

“At first I thought it was a peeping tom,” said Milward. “But with the other two incidents, I’m thinking he wants to get into someone’s house.”

Spokane Police tell KHQ that the area has had a slight increase in garage burglaries and theft.

Milward wants neighbors to be on the lookout for each other and to make sure they close their windows and lock their doors.

She says she doesn’t have a good description of the man but says he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and is between 5’8” and 5’11”.

If you have any information that could help police you are encouraged to call crime check.
