Man with warrants for his arrest adds on new charges after leading Spokane Co. on pursuit

Posted: Updated:
MEAD, Wash. -

A 25-year-old man with active warrants out for his arrest added a few new charges to his rap sheet after leading Spokane County Deputies on an early morning pursuit on Thursday.

Deputies spotted a van known to be used by Michael Rider at a home in the Mead area just prior to 2:30 a.m. Knowing Rider had warrants for his arrest, including one for burglary,

Deputies remained in the area to see if Rider was around the van.

A few minutes later, the driver, later identified as Rider, did not turn on any of the van's lights and quickly drove away. A pursuing deputy turned on his emergency lights, but Rider did not pull over. Several blocks later, Rider turned on the van's headlights and accelerated even faster.

With three deputies in pursuit, Rider blew through red lights and stop signs.

Once in a safe area to do so, a deputy executed a PIT maneuver to safely end the pursuit.

The van came to rest against a fence. Rider tried to drive away, but deputies blocked him in.

Rider complied with demands to exit the van and was safely taken into custody. During a search, deputies found a baggie of meth in Rider's front pocket.

Rider was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for new charges of Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License 3rd Degree.  He was also booked on the warrants for charges of Residential Burglary, Theft 3rd, Malicious Mischief 3rd Degree (DV) and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License 3rd Degree.
