Stevens County Secrets: Veteran, grandfather beaten to death

Posted: Updated:
STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -

He was a veteran, a beloved grandfather, a devoted husband of 55 years. John Sevy was the last person you would ever expect to be murdered. His family hopes justice and answers will one day come.

"He would protect his family no matter what," Margie Sevy said.

That's exactly what loved ones believe John Sevy died doing.

"The security light came on," Margie said. "He stumbled into a robbery in progress at our house."

It happened in July of 2015 at his Kettle Falls home. His horrific injuries were initially believed to be from an accidental fall.

"I said 'honey was someone outside with you,' he said yeah," Edie Sevy said. "He told me he didn't fall."

John launched his own murder investigation before he had to be put on life support. He died 13 days later.

"All the skin was off on the inside of his arms," Edie said. "The injuries were so severe. They called (our family) and said this was not consistent with the fall."

The family believes the killers were trying to rob the family. The do not believe this was a premediated murder. Still, they want someone to take responsibility for the heinous crime.

"I just want them to admit what they did," Margie said. "He was a good, good man."
