Woman: "Changes need to be made to the Third and Perry intersection"

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

Third and Perry is a unique intersection. There's a two way stop, crosswalks and drivers treat the 3rd Avenue service drive like a freeway entrance ramp. For Tina Jamieson being hit in the crosswalk is one of her fears "I have sat at that intersection so many times and thought this is very scary and that could be me I could get injured here," said Tina.

Because of her disease, Tina is confined to a motorized wheelchair which can only take her so far. It makes places like Liberty Park so precious to her as one of the few spots close enough to enjoy the outdoors, "I am dependent on that intersection to get a lot of my chores done. I use this intersection to access Fred Meyer's to access this wonderful Ben Burr trail which gets me to the other part of town," added Tina

Tina says the speed of the traffic, the blind corner, and the service dive that drivers treat as an entrance ramp are just a recipe for another death or accident to happen “I just really want to challenge the people in the city who look at this kind of thing. And maybe next time they pass this intersection and take a look at the actual specific conditions here.”

We looked into it and learned that in the last three years, there had been eight crashes at or near this same intersection-- four of them resulting in injuries.
