Deaf couple gets in fight with man who allegedly punched their service dog on plane

Posted: Updated:
ORLANDO, Fla. -

Federal authorities are investigating after police responded to a heated brawl in the middle of Orlando International Airport on Monday.

WOFL-TV reports Hazel Tamirez and her boyfriend Matt Silva are both hearing impaired. The couple was on a Frontier flight from Colorado Springs with their two kids and their Great Dane service dog. The couple says another passenger told them their dog was taking up too much space on the plane. The passenger, identified as Tim Manley, told the TV station he pushed the dog away because his wife is allergic to dogs.

According to a police report, Manley "punched the dog with a closed fist, causing it to yelp." The police report also said Tamirez, who is pregnant, was punched in the stomach by the same passenger. Manley says he never punched Tamirez.

A heated exchange between the passengers on the plane was captured on camera. and once the plane landed, it carried over into the airport terminal.

Frontier released a statement about the situation saying,  "upon deplaning Flight 1752 from Colorado Springs to Orlando, there was a confrontation between passengers. Police were immediately notified to aid in deescalating the situation."

Tamirez says her boyfriend was shocked and surprised by the incident and that the couple felt "disgusted" by how their dog was treated.

No arrests have been made and the case is now in the hands of federal officials.
